Job Title: API Manager Administrator Location: Stockholm, Sweden (Hybrid) Employment type: contract Detailed job Description: About the Role We are looking for an experienced WSO2 API Manager Administrator to manage, configure, and maintain our API management infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in WSO2's core components, hands-on infrastructure experience across Azure Kubernetes Service and VM-based deployments, a working understanding of LLM APIs, and a strong grasp of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) architecture. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities •Administer and maintain WSO2 API Manager environments across development, staging, and production •Configure and manage core components including the Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, and Traffic Manager •Integrate and manage third-party key managers (e.g., Keycloak, Okta, Curtiy) with WSO2 API Manager •Deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot WSO2 API Manager installations on virtual machines (Linux-based) •Manage and support WSO2 deployments running on Azure AKS, including pod scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage, and cluster monitoring •Onboard and manage LLM-based APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic) through the API Manager — including rate limiting, token-based throttling, and usage tracking •Set up, configure, and maintain MCP servers that expose tools, resources, and prompts to LLM-based clients •Design and troubleshoot MCP client-server integrations — understanding the full lifecycle including capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, and context passing between clients and servers •Govern MCP server endpoints through the API gateway — applying authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and observability policies •Define and enforce API governance policies, lifecycle management, and security standards •Monitor API traffic, diagnose performance issues, and optimize gateway throughput •Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation •Maintain documentation for configurations, runbooks, and operational procedures ________________________________________ Required Qualifications •4+ years of hands-on experience administering WSO2 API Manager (versions 3.x or 4.x) •Strong understanding of WSO2 core components: Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager, and Carbon-based architecture •Proven experience integrating third-party key managers and identity providers with WSO2 •Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining WSO2 API Manager on virtual machines, including database setup (MySQL/PostgreSQL/MSSQL), load balancer configuration, and high-availability deployments •Working knowledge of Azure AKS — including kubectl, Helm charts, node pools, networking (VNET integration, ingress controllers), and monitoring (Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana) •Familiarity with LLM APIs — understanding of how large language model endpoints work (request/response structure, token-based billing, streaming, rate limits) and how to expose and govern them through an API gateway •Deep understanding of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — including:
• Solid understanding of OAuth2, JWT, API security, and certificate management • Experience with Linux system administration Skills • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis in distributed API gateway environments • Strong understanding of how AI agents interact with external systems via tool-use protocols like MCP • Strong communication skills for working across development, security, AI, and infrastructure teams • Ability to document complex configurations clearly • Self-directed with a focus on reliability and uptime
