AI Operations Engineer

AI is already changing how work gets done at CatalystOne. We're looking for someone who can design, build and operate AI solutions that create real business value, removing manual work, improving processes and helping colleagues focus on higher-value work. The whole company is your remit, the work is already underway, and we're small enough that something you build can be used by colleagues within weeks. About the AI Hub The AI Hub is a new function within People & Technology, created to help CatalystOne identify, prioritise and realise the value of AI across the business. We don't see AI as purely a technology topic. Introducing AI changes how work is organised, what people need to learn, and where human judgement matters most. We want those conversations considered together, close to the people doing the work. The purpose of the AI Hub is to bring together process improvement, organisational change and technology to help teams work better and deliver stronger outcomes. As our AI Operations Engineer, you'll play a key role in turning ideas into solutions that people use every day. The role Your users are your colleagues. You'll build the systems, automations and AI-powered solutions that consultants, support teams, sales teams and back-office functions rely on to do their work. You'll work directly with the people experiencing the problem, helping shape solutions that fit how work actually happens. This is a small team with a short path from idea to implementation. Some opportunities can move from a conversation on Monday to a solution in production that same week. Others require deeper technical design, data modelling or integration work. You'll help make those calls and take ownership of what gets built long after launch. You'll work closely with the AI Business Partner and the IT Manager to assess opportunities and agree scope. The AI Business Partner leads process improvement, adoption and value measurement. You lead technical design, engineering and operations. Both of you are involved while the problem is being defined and stay close after launch to ensure solutions create lasting value. Some examples of what is already live This isn't a greenfield AI initiative. We already have solutions creating value across CatalystOne today, including:

• An AI support agent that resolves around a fifth of internal IT tickets before they reach the IT team.
• Data products that save consultants time and provide business insights we didn't previously have.
• Automated workflows that reduce manual administration and move information seamlessly between teams.

The AI Hub exists to build on that foundation, helping CatalystOne identify the next opportunities, improve how work gets done, and ensure new solutions deliver measurable business value. What you'll do You'll typically be involved throughout the entire lifecycle of a solution, from the first conversation through to operation and continuous improvement.Your work will include:

• Building AI agents, automations and integrations that remove manual work and improve how teams operate.
• Working directly with colleagues to understand problems and shape practical solutions.
• Designing data models, workflows and integrations that support reliable AI solutions.
• Deciding where automation makes sense, where AI adds value and where human judgement should remain part of the process.
• Owning the solutions you build, including reliability, monitoring, security and cost management.
• Improving solutions based on how people actually use them.
• Creating documentation and reusable patterns that allow others to understand, maintain and extend your work.

Our technology stack Today we use Claude Code and Anthropic models, our own MCP servers running on Azure Container Apps, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Graph, Azure Functions and Logic Apps. We already have agentic workflows running in production. The tools will change. If something better comes along and you can make the case for it, you'll have room to improve the setup. Whatever we run needs to be secure, understandable, maintainable and cost-effective. What we're looking for We're less interested in a specific career path than in your ability to build reliable solutions that people depend on.You'll likely bring:

• Experience building integrations, backend services, automations or internal platforms.
• Strong technical foundations in areas such as Azure, Microsoft Graph, APIs, serverless technologies, Python or C#.
• Experience delivering AI-powered solutions that real users rely on.
• Good technical judgement and the ability to choose simple solutions when they solve the problem.
• An understanding of security, reliability and operational ownership.
• Awareness of the trade-offs between capability, speed, complexity and cost.
• The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues.

You care about the work behind the request, not just the technology. You want to understand how people use what you've built, whether they trust it and how it can be improved over time. You don't need HR or HCM experience. If this sounds broadly like you, we'd love to hear from you. What success looks like Your first few weeks will be about understanding our infrastructure, the solutions already running and the colleagues who use them. You'll work closely with the AI Business Partner and the IT Manager on new opportunities, helping assess what is technically possible and where the best place to start might be. We want you building early, while giving you enough time to understand the environment you're responsible for. By day 90, we'd expect you to have taken ownership of parts of the existing platform, contributed to new solutions entering production, and built strong relationships with the colleagues using them.
